First Conference Win Of Season

Marist PG Isaiah Morton
With a 95-75 victory over Rider at the newly renovated McCann Arena, the Marist basketball team put on a shooting clinic to open the home MAAC regular season this afternoon. The game was a blast for Marist students, as this was the first chance for them to come out and support the men's team, and was also excellent for the players themselves, as this was their first home game with the students back from Thanksgiving break. The Red Foxes shot 9-14 behind the 3-point arc in the first half and 14-28 overall from the field. Marist got out to a 13-point lead within the first five minutes of the game and eventually took a nine point lead into halftime with a score of 45-36.

Coming out of the break Rider scored a quick three points, forcing Marist to call a time-out. After that time out, however, Marist took control of the game again, at one point extending the lead to 27 with 9:52 remaining in the game. Devin Price once again led the Red Foxes in scoring with 25 points, shooting 6-7 from beyond the 3-point arc and 5-5 from the free throw line, Chavaughn Lewis added 17 points with 7 rebounds, and center Adam Kemp tacked on 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists while shooting 7-8 from the free throw line.

Marist controlled the game from the opening tipoff. The Red Foxes outshot Rider 56.6% 930-53) to 48.4% (30-62) from the field and were an impressive 65% (13-20) from three compared to Rider's 7.1% (1-14). The Red Foxes advance to 3-5 on the season and 1-1 in the MAAC while Rider falls to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in the MAAC.

Former Marist player Korey Bauer got a warm welcome from Marist fans in his first visit to the new McCann Arena and first return to Marist since graduating last spring.

Marist will host Army this Wednesday at 7pm. This will be the final home game before Christmas Break, so we ask that students come out and support us to another great victory!
