Marist To Play In Basketball Hall Of Fame Tip-Off Tournament

Going into my fourth and final year as a student manager for the Red Foxes, I will have the honor of saying "We've played at Rupp Arena" (one of the best college venues to play at which seats 24,000 screaming blue and white fans). On November 11th, the Marist men's basketball team opens the '11-'12 season traveling to Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY to play the University of Kentucky. This contest will mark the second meeting between Marist Head Coach Chuck Martin and Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari. Martin was an assistant on Calipari's staff at Memphis from 2006-2008 advancing to the National Champion Game vs. Kansas. My freshman year the Red Foxes traveled to Memphis to take on the Tigers. Unfortunately, I was still paying my dues as a freshman so I wasn't able to travel to that game.

Three days after playing the Wildcats, we will play at the University of South Florida from the Big East Conference on Monday Nov. 14th.

We will then return to Poughkeepsie and get ready for the upcoming weekend when we head to Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut to close out the tournament. On Friday November 19th we will play the University of Vermont and then on Saturday we will either face Radford University or Long Island University depending on the outcome of Friday's competition.

Here are the 8 teams competing:
  • University of Kentucky
  • Old Dominion
  • University of Vermont
  • Long Island University
  • Marist College
  • Penn State
  • University of South Florida
  • Radford University
