Check out Cam's post:
My life in sports began when I was born. My father has worked for the Celtics since I have been alive, so I grew up around him, coaches, and players. I have always known professional sports is the industry I wanted to get involved in after I graduated from college. My first job in the field was for the Celtics as a ball boy / locker room attendant. This was a beneficial job because it taught me basic responsibilities and working with others to make sure things got done for the games to run smoother for the players and coaches. I saw how my father worked with players and coaches and that has been great for me in my career on how I handle situations in my own line of work.
After the ball boy days I did some volunteer work that helped me progress as a young adult gaining experience in the working world. I volunteered with the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. I helped the Communications staff write game recaps for the NBA Summer League website and got quotes from players and coaches after games as well for those stories. My second volunteer experience was with the NBA Finals Media Relations staff where I helped out distributing stats and interview notes to media and NBA personnel before, during, and after the games.
Helping out in 2008, the year the Celtics won the Championship, was an unforgettable experience. Being able to put into words how amazing it was isn't possible. Watching the minutes tick down in that final Game 6, confetti shooting into the air, taking pictures with my family and the trophy after the game, being a part of the duck boat parade the following day, plus many more memorable moments will be forever in my mind. The parade was probably my favorite part, I was on a boat with some front office staff, just seeing the amount of fans that came out, chants of "Beat LA" though the streets of Boston still ring in my head. I can't give too many details because I think it is something you need to expereince on your own to really appreciate how amazing it all really is.
My background has always been basketball and I feel I have learned so much. I continue to learn every day, even now working for the Maine Red Claws. I have been able to work on so many different projects ranging from accounting to organizing our kids camp to working out our players. The great part about the NBA D-League is being able to help out in so many projects because the office has such a small staff. I have been very lucky in my life to learn from so many great people, my parents, Red Auerbach, Jon Jennings, just to name a few major people. I look forward to having many more great times as I progress in my career wherever that may take me!
